Darla Somerville (Owner, Direct IT Recruiting)

I am owner of Direct IT Recruiting agency.  I place both IT skilled contract and full-time resources ranging from Quality Assurance up to VP level.  Predominantly focussed in the Greater Toronto Area, I provide recruiting services across Canada.

I have a BSc in Computer Science from University of New Brunswick with 20 years of IT experience.  I began my career as a UNIX shell scripter and application developer, I then worked as a Senior Systems Engineer at Toshiba Canada for 8.5 years.  Venturing more into sales and marketing roles, I worked as a pre-sales network consultant for SHL Systemhouse, National Marketing Manager for NEC, then Client Executive for Soroc Technology selling IT solutions and services to McDonald’s Canada and the Royal Bank of Canada for 6.5 years.  The last 9 years of my career has included IT recruiting into tier 1 Canadian companies.  I established “preferred vendor status” with one of the top 5 banks in Canada and was one of the top two sales people making President’s Club at my previous Recruiting Agency.  I am a member of Toronto Association of Software and Systems Quality (TASSQ) and a member of the Markham Board of Trade.
